Essay Coaching
I know the feeling of staring at a blank page as a deadline looms. I’ve done it hundreds (if not thousands) of times as a journalist at Newsday and elsewhere.
Over time, I’ve developed tactics to get to the heart of a story quickly, write a strong lead, and craft narratives that linger in readers’ minds. I’ve won a few awards in the process.
I share these strategies with students facing down their own essays. Often, their biggest hurdle is choosing a topic. As a writing teacher and mentor, I guide students toward subjects that light them up during one-on-one virtual (and occasional in-person) sessions. Working together, we compose essays that highlight their unique voice and experience, whether for class assignments or college admissions applications.
I also offer personalized open-ended tutoring for students who’d like to gain lifelong writing skills that will serve them in classes, their careers, and beyond.
Sessions are 50 minutes long, and I suggest at least three to start. I take on only a handful of students at a time and I’m currently booking for mid-summer 2024, as well as fall and winter college applications. To find out more about my approach or rates, please fill in this form (I’ll usually respond the same day) or schedule a 20-minute discovery call with me here.
